They wanted to make sure that they had the appropriate nutrients (moderate sodium amounts, and to make sure they had less than 10mg of iron daily, and they have to be supplemented with vitamin d). Nasa is a huge company so they can afford to tell people what they want. They needed a system in place to guarantee that their food was safe, but the food industry didn"t have a regulated system in place for this. There has to be a system in place that you can follow in the event that something happens. 7 principles of haccp - remember these :) Step # 1 determining potential hazards: is this company working with a high- risk food? (foods that are going to allow the growth of bacteria, for instance meat, poultry, and fish. )
