If you are a mammal what stress is about is 3 minutes of screaming terror after which either you"re over or it"s over. Allostasis: allows for the differences in baselines between individuals. Stressor: anything that knocks us out of homeostasis. Stress response: hormonal cascade that sets in to bring us back down to baseline. Acute physical stressors: e. g. animals something attacks you. Chronic physical stressors: e. g. starvation, refugee status something that you experience on a regular basis. Psychosocial stressors: stress based on what occurs in social groups/situations/society. The stress-response and its pathogenic potential: it is very adaptive, chronic stress helps with the emergence of stress related disease.
