Love canal public attention in the late 70"s. Hooker chemical closed it down and decided to fill it with chemical waste from their factory. School was built on top of it after the school board bought it for 1$. Late 70s kids would come home with hands that are discoloured or burns present. Pool of weird stuff in the school grounds and go play in it and were getting burned in the process. Strange odours in the houses and school near by. Did a chromosomal analysis, found the breakage rate of the chromosomes was 30% higher . Kidney abnormalities, heart defects, asthma rate, etc. because of damaged chromosomes, it wasn"t just them who have been living there, it was getting passed on to future generations through passing of genes. Love canal ended up being a place that evacuated in 78. There were a few people that stayed in the community.
