PSYC 1020H Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Central Nervous System, Peripheral Nervous System, Autonomic Nervous System
Document Summary
Biology the brain"s building bocks and the nervous system. Way that info is transmitted throughout your body. Afferent nerves (sensory nerves) carry information to the brain: what you feel, hear, and touch, remember this by a to b (afferent to brain) Efferent nerves (motor nerves) carry motor information from the brain to muscles and glands: tell your body to move. There are 2 major divisions of the nervous system. Consists of two different nerve fibres: the somatic and autonomic nervous systems. Connects the brain and spinal cord to voluntary muscles throughout the body. Connects the central nervous system to internal organs and glands. Regulates heart rate, breathing, blood pressure, etc. Consists of the sympathetic and parasympathetic divisions. Responses to emergencies; prepares you for action. Actives processes that conserve the body"s energy. Dendrites receive information from other neurons and sensory receptors. Cell body receives information from dendrites, and if enough stimulation is received, the message is passed to the axon.
