The brain organizes words and provides attention to them. Brain is one of the most energy consuming organ. Areas where blood flow decreases are areas in use (as oxygen is used to maintain energy flow) Peripheral nervous system is the major contributor to sensory information to the brain to the spine. The layer that surrounds the brain as a protective shield is called the meninges. Migraines are caused by dilation in the meninges. Meningitis is a bacterial infection that is absorbed into brain tissue. The folded texture allows a large surface area and low volume. Alzheimer"s disease causes neurons to die, the sulci will expand and gyri to thin as the brain shrinks (shrinking to 700 800 ccs) There are two separate hemispheres of the brain. There are typically equivalent functions between brain sides. Communicate between fibers called the corpus callosum. There is sexual dimorphic results in an increased enlargement of posterior part of corpus callosum in females.
