Where you will find immediate families with grandparents, aunts. Young children learn the norms of society: stabilization. Traditional families of the 1950s: mother was the caregiver and the father went out to work. 1960s: experience of middle class and working class were very different in society. 1971- women s refuge was first set up in britain. Families work pm distinct roles, gender and age roles. Cohabitation- couples making a relationship will usually get married after they have lived together. Marriage is becoming less permanent- rise in divorce over the last 30 years. Increase in the number of couples who divorce very early in the marriage. People are having less children in their family. One in five children live in a one parent household- most of which are headed by women. Step or reconstituted families- used to be constructed by death and now by divorce and separation. Many carribean families are soley headed by women.
