SOCI 2700H Lecture Notes - Lecture 8: Occupational Stress, Money Management, Gender Inequality
Document Summary
Gender can be a powerful determinant of household organizaion and interacional family dynamics in many family forms and household types. Gender inequality coninues to prevail within the majority of heterosexual couple relaionships. Despite discriminaion and prejudice same-sex couples are able to create and sustain healthy relaionships, main of which last longer than those of heterosexual relaionships. Conclusions that arise from the research: point to generally stable and well-adjusted relaionships, even in the face of stressful condiions. Possibly limited or absent support from their families of origin: tend to more egalitarian than heterosexual relaionships. Share domesic tasks equal, division of household labour is diferent from the heterosexual gender-based paterns: there relaionships are highly unscripted, few guidelines or norms they can follow. It requires the couple to decide for themselves the dynamics of their relaionship, how the relaionship with unfold, largely deine their own roles.
