AN SC312 Lecture Notes - Lecture 13: Estrous Cycle, Sertoli Cell, Granulosa Cell
Document Summary
Can see the sertoli cells are kind of like the granulosa cells. Building testosterone and nothing to slow the process down. Body builders take steroids to enhance peripheral testosterone. Every few hrs you see a surge of gnrh. Some stays in seminiferous tublues to drive testosterone. Some gets out and feeds back on hypothalamus. This will drop gnrh production ---> drops lh ---> drops testosterone production. A lot of behaviour in small males is reproductive behaviour. Happens before large amount of sperm are present. Eventually you need enough sperm to make it to the fertilization point. When it hits puberty it is desensitised to that environment. The leydig and sertoli cells need to mature otherwise the testosterone will stay at the same basal level. Testosterone will need to build to adult levels. Even before puberty the tonic center is pumping out gnrh. This will help the leydig and sertoli cells to mature. Come into puberty around 3 months (really early)
