Document Summary

Homeobox genes are conserved from fruit ies to us. These mutations have been known for about a 100 years (e. g radiation) Had a special region in it called teh homeobox. Jomeobox is a small part of teh protein that build a small domain which is the dna binding protein. Since the alpha helix is straight it can only interact with one face of the major groove. Can usually only interact with 3-4 base pairs. Thats not a lot of contact surface. Less speci city through minor groove than major groove audio. Helix turn helix is a protein motif hth. If this home domain protein has to nd one single gene to activate, i theory it cannot do it based on just tis as very little speci city to uniquely de ne a gene out of 20,000 genes. This protein can now contact 7/8 domains. Its a tiny protein dmain (30 or so amino acid sin size)
