Uyghur from altai mtns, natives of tarim basin, persian tribes. Follows sunni islam and influenced by sufi tradition, shrine(mazar) pilgrimage; integrated with islamic faith and beliefs. Uyghur music contains: several different regional styles, geography and complex history of region. The most famous genre of uyghur music is muqam, which includes: Several regional traditions of large scale suites of sung. The instruments, genres, styles, and context both can link with local traditions. Popular traditions of sung epic tales (dastan) Music genres link to the rituals of sufis and folk songs. Uyghur music has historically absorbed much influence from the regions of central asia to the west, arriving along the famed silk road: function/ meaning. Narrative songs (1) telling the story of famous lovers. Most common one: the tale of gharip and sanam. (2) telling the story of mythical and historical heroes and heroines. Tragic heroine nuzugum. (3) telling the recent history events.
