Document Summary

A situation where someone wants to work but are unable to find a job in the current market. Doesn"t include people with no jobs and don"t want a job either. Didn"t work at all in the previous week. Were available to work if they had been offered a job. Were making efforts to look for a job. Labour force refers to people of the working age whether they"re employed or not. A decrease in the employment rate doesn"t mean more people are getting jobs; other factors play a role. Less people in the work force (participation rate decreases) Younger people have a higher unemployment rate. Students may not be able to work full time. Some ask for government assistance but it could create problems in other areas. The market should just fix itself other areas. Prairie provinces tend to be lower except alberta. Insurable hours: have to work a certain amount of hours to qualify for e. i. benefits.
