Insects are a class of invertebrates within the arthropod phylum that have: chitinous exoskeleton, a three part body (head, thorax and abdomen, three pairs of jointed legs, compound eyes, one pair of antennae. They are the most diverse group of animals on the planet. The scientific analysis and study of interactions among organisms and their environment. Includes the study of interactions organisms have with each other, other organisms, and with abiotic components of their environment. Topics of interest to ecologists include: diversity, distribution, amount, number (population) of a particular organisms, cooperation and competition between organisms, both within and among ecosystems. The study of the ecological processes that operate in agricultural production systems. Studies of ecological phenomena within a crop field or an approach that incorporates ecological sustainability into production systems. Monoculture: the agricultural practice of producing or growing a single crop, plant, or livestock species, variety, or breed in a field or farming system at a time.
