A group of ilms that share a set of narraive, stylisic and themaic characterisics. Smaller clusters of ilm in which addiional convenions come in play. The fusing of two or more genres into one. Set within the period of the wild west (1865-1890) The landscape plays a crucial role (it is correlaive of the spiritual, mental and emoional state of the characters. Two main categories: male hero helps restore law and order in a community by killing a band of notorious outlaws, bloody struggle between naive americans and setlers for the control of the land. The setlers homes vs. the indian camps. The hero"s discovery of a burned house, etc. Independent and resourceful, and survives through harsh condiions of american west. He survives without comforts and securiies of civilizaion. Does not show disregard for human life, and helps to preserve the lives/ lifestyles of the setlers. Stands between the wilderness/ savagery/ lawlessness and vulture/ civilizaion.
