An oil rich country, however many people have left recently and became refugees. There is a civil war between the sunni and shiite muslims. Was a sunni muslim, the religious minority controlled the government. The pretext was that iraq had weapons of mass destruction. This was false and due to faulty intelligence, and were never found. The government also lead the puplic to believe that al queada was buddies with iraq and helped with 9/11, also not true. The un and the eu were against the invasion of iraq, however, britian supported it. It was called operation iraqi freedom, and they build a collision army from anyone who would help them. They wanted to give the middle east a democracy, and they embraced the idea of the arab spring. For a decomcarsy to work, you need a general consensus on what is wanted.
