This area of the course involves the determinants or correlates in the behavioural epidemiology framework. Determinants are defined as causal factors, and variations in these factors are follows systematically by variations in behavior (causally related to the variable). Correlates are factors associated with a behavior but the relationships are not necessarily causal. These terms mean different things but are often used interchangeably. Determinants are correlates can impact health outcomes directly, or indirectly through health behaviours. There are many different health behaviours that can occur at different levels and are affected through the social ecological framework.
