An external force is applied to the fabric and the response of the fabric is measured. Strength testing is one category of performance tests. Breaking strength is a resistance to a a tensile force. Strength testing is used for quality control and for evaluation of end-use performance. Often cited as one of the most important textile properties. Without adequate and appropriate tensile strength, a textile material will be unable to perform adequately. Weak bres- break in spinning and create waste. Weak yarns- break in weaving, creating awed fabric, production stoppages and increases the cost. Weak fabric- may not perform adequately in some end uses. Supposed load (mass) applied to a sample in an axial direction. Tension will develop in sample as force of gravity acts upon the load.
