Students must develop not only the component skills and knowledge to perform complex tasks, must also combine and integrate them to develop greater fluency and automaticity: must learn when and how to apply skills and knowledge they learned. Goal-directed practice coupled with targeted feedback enhances the quality of students" learning. Learning is best when students engage in practice that focuses on a specific goal, targets level of challenge, and is of sufficient quantity and frequency to meet the performance criteria. Practice must go in hand with feedback that provides information to help students meet those criteria. To become self-directed learners, students must learn to monitor and adjust their approaches to learning. o.
