Life course theory: a sequence of socially defined events and roles that an individual enacts over time. Affected by: where they live, timing of their lives, linked lives and social ties. Trajectories: long-term pathways or patterns of stability and change that can include multiple transitions. Transitions: a discrete life change within a trajectory as a result of a change in status, social identity or role involvement. As older adults are faced with retirement, illness (acute and chronic), moving to a nursing home and death of a spouse, family member or friend. As a result, jobs aren"t opening up for younger people, kids are moving home and then older adults have debt they didn"t start out with. Some of the kids are paying because their parents can"t afford assisted living. Whether retirement will be enjoyable and satisfying can be strongly predicted (cid:271)y the perso(cid:374)"s health, so(cid:272)ial (cid:374)etwork/relatio(cid:374)ships a(cid:374)d their willingness to retire.
