Purpose of communication in our body is to maintain homeostasis. Types of chemical messenger signalling: paracrine chemical released from one cell acts on a proximal cell. Target cell has receptors for the hormone/ message. Purpose: allow communication and coordinate responses in order to react appropriately to external and internal stimuli. Consists of two groups: endocrine cells that secrete hormone, target cells have receptors that allow them to receive message from the hormones and is responsible for bringing about the change the hormone wants. Cells that release hormones: primary endocrine glands main function is hormone release, secondary endocrine organs main function is not hormone release. Regulation of hormone secretion nts, other hormones, metabolites or ions can modulate hormone release from the secretory glands/ organs positively or negatively.
