Dsm divides this spectrum into 3 types: autistic disorder, asperger"s disorder, pdd-nos(pervasive developmental disorders not other specified) Impaired social interaction and communication: detected early on. Repetitive behaviour/actions seen: some behaviour may be obsessive compulsive (rocking back and forth) Similar to autistic disorder but much milder. Impairment is only noticeable in one of the three categories (communication, social interaction, repetitive behaviour/actions) Aka atypical autism because criteria in diagnosing autism are not met: eg. Some symptoms may be milder, some may be worse. There is not evidence that childhood vaccines increase the risk for autism in children. Ingrained, inflexible thoughts, feelings, and interpersonal interactions that causes distress or impairs normal functioning. Key features: can understand perspectives different from own, unhappy/depressed, everyone is crazy except them. Three categories according to dsm: odd/eccentric. Strange beliefs and behavious in social interaction (eg. talking to self)
