Document Summary

Psych 105: individual and social behaviour (01st april 2019)- lecture 32. Emphasise on our believes and our thoughts in response to our experiences and not on our unconscious instinctive urges. Julian rotter people behave differently depending on whether they believe that success depends on skill or luck. Ultimate success depended on whether they believed they had control over the situation or not. If they believe that skill is the key to success, they work harder. If we think the behaviour is going to pay off, we will behave that certain way. In many life situations, it isn"t clear whether our behaviour will give us a reward e. g. having a diet to prevent heart attack. In these situations, people behave according to generalised disposition- personality trait acquired from past experiences locus of control. Locus of control a person"s perception of the typical source of control over rewards. When people feel like their own efforts are controllable internal locus of control.
