PSYCO258 Lecture Notes - Lecture 9: Retina, Afterimage, Iconic Memory
Document Summary
Attentional blink (when you focus on something so much that you miss other details) Second target follows the first one, you often miss it. Given a serious of letters and digits, one coloured red: first task to report eh letter, second task, detect if there was a digit in the stream. More trouble when the digit follows the red one by a couple digits (big dip in accuracy) Task 1 difficulty: easier proves higher accuracy, difficult task, make color not as discriminable. Then performance drops a lot: if task is easier, accuracy is higher, smaller drop, if the first target requires a lot of resources, theres not as much left over to process the seond target. Resources used to process first target: unavailable to detect the digit until the first target is complete. Processing involves retaining the context (remembering where it was) Distinguishable items from rscp stream requires resources to identify the contet.
