There is no underlying order of things, we make sense of things based on what people intend, and we assume these are things we can see or pick up on. Whatever that may be, just by giving voice to it doesn"t make sense of what you do. Methods in an accomplished order, once it is created people are able to see it. Even if someone disagree, it still gives it some kind of merit. To disagree means you know what they mean. Things can be normatively funny vs normatively o ensive. And open to be con rmed or challenged by the next speaker. Idea is that in ca the central idea is sequentiality. Whatever people say, what happens before to frame it and what happens after as a response. Adjacency pairs are based on our practical understanding that particular kinds of utterances require particular kinds of responses (e. g. question/answer, greeting/reciprocation, invitation/acceptance, order/compliance.
