Standards used by a culture to describe abstract qualities such as goodness, beauty, and justice and to assess behaviour of others. Ideal culture: values that we claim about how we think we should act (attitudes, belief) What we say we value is often di erent that what we actually do. Value: patriarchy (power of men, control of women) Intimate, informally-based interactions ex. a family - siblings, parents, etc. ex. close friendships. The people that you work with/go to school with. Position a person occupies within a social group. Who we are relative to others in a social group. Status you are born into - highbrow, ivy league students, people of a certain socioeconomic class. Something that you are because of your own doing. Set of rights, obligations, expectations associated with a status.
