What is considered deviant is determined by the audience in the setting, historical contex. It matters the degree; even the most black and white thinkers have a continuum of in which is considered serious or not. We all engage in some type of deviance (not holding th your mouth open) --> end of the continuum is considered extreme = part of. Norms: are the unstated, unwritten, and non-articulated rules of behaviour that individuals hav avoid appearing deviant. The origins of norms are often difficult to uncover, given that they emerge through some processes.
