SOC382 Lecture Notes - Lecture 19: Bipolar Disorder
Document Summary
Dr is looking at chart (most important) not what person says about their experiences. Dr just has to (cid:373)odulate right (cid:373)ed to produ(cid:272)e right effe(cid:272)t a(cid:374)d not so (cid:373)u(cid:272)h pt"s report. Directions: most people w/n bipolar disorder benefit greatly from keeping some sort of a mood chart. A mood chart indicates over a period of time if there is a pattern of episodes, their freq and length, and can be instrumental in avoiding an episode before it is out of control. Taking your completed mood chart to your psychiatrist allows him to make medication decisions and be more fully informed of your progress on a regular basis. Implications that drs have authority and position of power. Mood = being measured and correlation of mood and medication (only 2 factors that are important) Mind-body dualism: pt is reporting their mood but everything else about their experience = invisible (chart): record high and low points on any given day.
