Human communication is rule guided and rule following obsessed with this. Theorists believe we learn broad social patterns of interpretations that are woven into cultural life not external factors. Six levels of meaning which helps us interpret others actions and structures our own actions. Breaks down the way we make meanings in communication. I hate you because your won the lottery is different then is a speech of jealousy i hate you you betrayed me is one of hate. If you say, you"re a bitch to a close friend that you always say it too, then it"s not a big deal in the episode. But if you say it too during an episode of an argument then it"s mean.
