KNES 259 Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Median Plane, Buttocks, Transverse Plane
Document Summary
Anatomy: structure and organization of the body. Example: anatomy combined together to provide function. Shoulder, armpit, brachium, arm, elbow, forearm (antebrachium), wrist, hand, ngers, digits. Trunk: thorax (pectoral regions, chest), back (entire posterior of trunk), abdomen. Hip, thigh, knee, shank, ankle, foot, toes. Anatomical position: everything pointing forward, including arms, feet and toes, palms facing out (involves keeping wrist in sagittal plane, despite it being uncomfortable position) Is the reference point when discussing positions, direction, and organization of the anatomy. 3 major planes that are all 90 of each other. They give different perspective and viewpoint in terms of where something is in the body. Sagittal: splits body in right and left halves. If body is split directly down the middle creating equal halves, it is the mid-sagittal (or median) plane. Anything away from median plane is the para-sagittal plane, it doesn"t split right and left equally (ie. one is bigger than the other).
