Alveolar ridge- small ridge that protrudes from just behind the upper front teeth. Alveolar- sound produced when the tongue touches or is near the alveolar ridge. Alveopalatal- sounds produced when tongue touches or is near the roof of the mouth directly behind the alveolar ridge. Palate- the highest part of the roof of the mouth. Palatal- sounds produced when tongue is on or near the palate. Velum- soft area toward the back of the roof of the mouth.
