Document Summary

Many fascicles are surrounded by tough epimysium. Usually attached to bone except for facial muscles. Consists of a fusion of cells with several nuclei. Bres are long and have a distinct striations. Speed of contraction depends on skeletal muscle bres. Each muscle bre is enclosed in endomysium. Group of sheath bres are wrapped in perimysium. Bundles of sheath bres = fascicles: cardiac. Made up of bundles of cardiomyocytes that form the wall of the heart. Comprised of branching chains of cells that have one nucleus per cell. Under control of the pacemaker in the heart = involuntary: sooth muscle. Forms sheets of muscle tissue in the walls of hollow organs such as blood vessels and gastrointestinal tract. Fusiform in shape and have one nucleus per cell. Also controlled by hormones and stretch stimuli. Contraction is usually rhythmic and very slow. Myo brils are separated into sections by protein structures called z-discs. Z-discs act as anchors for thin protein.
