Alone, acquisition of funding, collection of data, the provision of material (e. g. reagents, animals, tissues) or general supervision of the research group do not warrant authorship (an acknowledgment would be suitable) However, a major contribution to one of the items in addition to items 2 and 3 on the previous slide could warrant authorship. The senior author(s) should offer to each individual who has met the first criterion the opportunity to participate in authoring, drafting or critically reviewing the manuscript so as to avoid exclusion. It is usual in the health sciences and physiology for others to be listed in descending order of their contribution to the paper, with the exception that the senior author is often listed last. The role of each author in the work reported should be indicated: safety measurement in case on part of the report was fudged. Can say you were working on another part of the paper and had no idea.
