The north american family is close to becoming a domesic insituion. Canada: up to 50 weeks: get 55% of income, wages are capped at around ,000 per year, so a woman on maternity doesn"t take in much per week. Parents can share weeks or split them up. In places with no governmental support for maternity leave, women face the risk of being ired because they"re pregnant, or have to decide between staring a family or keeping her job. Canadian parents who get paid leave are more likely to return to work and are less likely to go on welfare. Can signiicantly reduce infant mortality (as much as 10%), dramaically beter for infant health, way more likely to get vaccines when mother has access to paid maternity leave. Also important for new parents health: women have fewer depressive symptoms and improvement on overall mental health, lasted up unil their 50s.
