Think of stress as a product of a force ield . A person"s level of performance in an organizaion results from factors that may either complement or contradict one another. Certain forces drive or moivate changes in behaviour and others restrain or block those changes. These forces are said to be balanced in the force ield. Performance changes (good or bad) come when the forces become imbalanced. If the resising factors are unrestrained they can lead to pathological results (anxiety, heart problems, etc. ) Resiliency (restraining factors) include behavioural paterns, psychological characterisics, and supporive social relaionships. A degree of stress is needed to moivate acion. Developing workforce conidence: mastery/success experiences, vicarious learning/modeling, social persuasion/posiive feedback, psychological and physiological arousal/well-being.
