Chapter 10 black pop and the rise of disco (1970-1980) The groove in funk comes from jazz music. During the 1970s, black pop was still contained in a small market separated from the mainstream (which included rock) Despite this, there were many similarities between rock and black pop. Motown in the 70s music after artists like sly stone possibilities the mid-70s. Blaxploitation: new genre of film (with supporting soundtracks) The exploitation of black people, especially with regard to stereotyped roles in movies: first film was made in 1971 and was called sweet sweetback"s. Baadasssss song offered a rare black perspective on urban life was an indie film made completely outside of hollywood made a lot of money so major studios started to make blaxploitation films. Isaac hayes an oscar for his music in the movie charts. Hayes would go on to have 7 #1 albums on the soul album. Wah-wah was integral to his guitar playing.
