What is so important about the ottoman empire period 1400?- because it laid the foundation for the nations to be created and divided by colonialism. Ottoman empire- early roots in the 1200s until world war 1 (1914). Was an absolute monarch (sultan) at the head of a central administration. Starts with a warrior chief who conquers lands, and as more lands are conquered we start to see the rise of a strong central administration and characteristics of a state. Diwan- consultative body and the head of diwan- grand visor. Central administration of the ottoman empire was largely directed at the collection and maintenance of resources- particularly taxes. (lessez faire= hands off empire). Ottoman lifestyle- very much decentralized empire compared to the. They did not bring in huge amounts of infrastructure, and in fact left much of that work to local leaders.
