Research ethics: reactivity human response to being under observation, subjects have rights ethics board determines whether or not an experiment is ethical and can proceed, unintentional violations, milgram"s obedience to authority electric shocks given under direct authority. No opportunity for participants to opt out: zimbardo"s prison experiment prisoners and guards, nuremberg code incl principles such as, rights of individual before the purpose of the study, declaration of helsinki, not international law, simply principles that researchers have agreed on and est. and abide by, main principles, voluntary participation. Debriefing: deception at the beginning of the experiment is acceptable bc do not want subjects to know hypothesis, etc. due to several factors but must be fully explained after, contrasts to the methodology, no harm. Confidentiality/anonymity more generic statements: justice, ethical risks more prominent in some than others, ethics can be an inconvenience, not entirely clear whether the ethics legislation should be followed, rule of law v protecting subjects.
