Learn about the 4 sociological schools of thought and associated theorists. Ibn khaldun: father of sociology and the science of history, wrote the muqaddimah (an intro to history that discussed historical method and outlined the necessary criteria for distinguishing historical truth from error) Structural functionalism: a society is stable when social institutions (i. e. family/religion/politics/school) meet the needs of its citizens. Symbolic interactionism: studies human interaction at the micro level, emphasizes individual living within larger society. Individuals at the center of understanding society since social values and roles formed by individual interpretations. Individuals create sense of self by the reaction of others: behavior of others in societies deeply rooted in our response and reaction to it; this dependent relationship is what allows society to function smoothly. Chandra talpade mohanty (feminist) (cid:862)thi(cid:396)d (cid:449)o(cid:396)ld (cid:449)o(cid:373)e(cid:374)(cid:863) portrayal of women from different cultures as having one identity and all suffering from oppression in the same way.
