SOC 1500 Lecture Notes - Lecture 5: Liberal Feminism, Marxist Feminism, Radical Feminism
Document Summary
Radical feminism - negative views of males, believing women shouldn"t have kids or sex. Liberal feminism - having more equality (gender equality, equality of opportunity) Women should be paid the same, have the same job opportunities, have access to education. Socialist / marxist feminism - capitalism is problematic, creates a difference between men and women. Reinforcement - different reinforcement in the enforcement of laws, the system is nicer to women (are authorities more likely to give warnings to women). When women cry or act feminine" they way get a lighter or more severe sentence. Police are more likely to take action with a girl who"s been attacked rather than a man. Liberation thesis ( daly & chesney-lind 1988) - we saw an increase in the level of crime in the 1970s for women. Opportunity - increased labour allowed more time out of the home, more time to commit crime - the more liberated women are, the more crimes committed.
