PSYC 2290 Lecture Notes - Lecture 4: Ulnar Nerve, Central Nervous System, Fontanelle
Document Summary
Gross and fine motor development: fine = small movements (ex. grasping, refinement of walking, gross = walking. Each new skill is a product of: central nervous system development, the body"s capacity for movement, the goal the child has in mind, environmental supports for the skill. Pre-reaching (they would like to bring it closer to them, but they have no way of doing that the goal is in mind) 7 weeks eye movements improve: facilitates the reaching (they can better see what it is that they want) 3-4 months coordination improves: better at guiding their hand to where they want it. Ulnar and pincer grasp: ulnar = grabbing big things, pincer = grabbing small things. Phase 1: height grows quickly in the first year: dramatic growth period body triples in weight. Phase 2: 2 years of age child will gain 15cm and 2. 7kg a year until adolescence: growth continues at a gradual and slower pace (less dramatic growth)
