Organizing involves coordinaing and allocaing a irm"s resources so that the irm can carry out its plans and achieve its goals. This organizaion process is accomplished by determining work aciviies and dividing up tasks, grouping jobs and employees, and assigning authority and responsibiliies. The result is a formal organizaional structure, which is the order and design of relaionships within the irm. Formal organizaions have well-deined lines of authority, channels for informaion low, and means of control. Five structural building blocks are used in designing an eicient and efecive organizaional structure. They are division of labor, departmentalizaion, managerial hierarchy, span of control, and centralizaion of decision making. Funcional - based on the primary funcions performed. Product - based on the goods/services produced or sold. Process - based on the producion process used. Customer - based on the primary type of customer served.
