KIN 121 Lecture Notes - Lecture 27: Bungie, Weight Training, Calisthenics
Document Summary
**resistance training does not necessarily mean weight training! Not as vogue / social sometimes difficult to add resistance increments. Less expensive: more variety, more natural / functional movement than machines, time consuming, often need spotter, more technique needed. Increase overload throughout range of motion: relatively safe and easy to use. Less variety: unnatural movement, poor: stabilizers, balance, coordination. Muscles don"t know source of resistance by nervous system does. A single rendition of an exercise i. e. lifting a weight up and down = 1 rep. 1 rep. max (1rm) is a resistance that can be overcome only once. 10rm would be a resistance that can be overcome only 10 times. Set: a group of consecutive repetitions that you perform without resting. Work interval: time it takes to complete a set of exercises or a distance. Rest interval: rest time between sets or time between work intervals. 3 sets of 5 reps (3 x 5)
