Document Summary

By definition prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells have different nucleus, as both organisms can be multicellular and unicellular. Review all functions and attributes of prokaryotic/eukaryotic. Prokaryotic cells don"t have membrane bound organelles. Nucleus is the defining feature of eukaryotic cells. Mitochondria and chloroplasts have their own ribosomes. Er: network of membranous channels and vesicles. Rough er secrete proteins that go outside the cell. Smooth er synthesizes lipids and is the site of many other essential cellular functions. Cytosolic proteins are made by ribosomes not the er. Endomembrane system: er & nuclear envelope are the main two, golgi complex, lysosomes, vacuoles, vesicles, plasma membrane - (eukaryotic cells) These can be connected indirectly and directly, eg. vesicles are in indirectly connected. Golgi complex: flattened membranous sacs, chemically modifies proteins made in rough er. Sorts finished proteins to be secreted from cell or embedded in plasma membrane.
