Document Summary

The respiratory system can be divided into two parts: The laryngeal region is where you will find vocal cords, larynx: mouth, nasal cavity, pharynx, lower respiratory tract trachea is a tube made of c-shaped cartilaginous rings. The c is posterior; cartilage will keep the airways nice and open, to ensure no huge resistance for the air travelling down. Trachea divided by two: primary bronchi (bronchus is singular), these divide into secondary and tertiary bronchi = a respiratory tree. Each time you see a branch in the airway, the airway lumen becomes a little bit narrower every time. Ultimately you will see increase in surface area that participates in gas exchange we ultimately also see a bronchiole (terminal bronchiole) where we see the gas exchange on the alveolar surface: trachea, bronchi, bronchioles, lungs, exchange surface. Sites of gas exchange the alveoli.
