Document Summary

Genome equivalence - differential gene expression - enhancers, reporter genes, & reporter constructs - transcription factors - Alternative / differential rna splicing - microrna (mirna) Every cell of an organism carries the same genome. Product of continuous rounds of replication without intervening mitosis. Represent a high resolution, physical genetic map. Banding pattern represents the organization of the genome, and is the same in different tissues. This was early evidence in support of genomic equivalence. Polytene banding patterns represent any change in pattern that is associated differential gene expression. The chromatin structure had to be changed and inorder for that to occur, the bands became puffs. 1952: briggs and king blastula cell nuclei could result in complete tadpoles when transferred into an enucleated frogg egg (did not produce adult frogs) Subtle changes in gene regulation (epigenetics) was causing issues, however, it was thought that the somatic nucleur transfer was occurring.
