HRM200 Lecture Notes - Lecture 4: Job Analysis, Wrongful Dismissal, Organizational Culture
Document Summary
Selection decisions are about finding the right people with the right skills to fit the job and the organizational culture. The ability to make the right choices has impact on how an organization will adapt, grow, or even survive. People are the backbone of any organization: those you select must be a "fit" from not only a knowledge, skills and abilities perspective, but they must also have a belief in the organization"s mission, vision, and values. Otherwise, it can result in not being able to reach your strategic objectives, many "hidden costs", and in some cases, reputational damage. An ineffective selection process can also lead to significant legal implications. Overall, the selection process has considerable strategic impact. Underperformance of employees selected into a position will result in costs in terms of time and money. It can also result in legal implications ranging from human rights issues, to negligent hiring, and even wrongful dismissal.
