Democracies don"t fight each other in war (democratic peace) Democracies and non democracies and non democracies vs nondemocracies experience more wars against each other. Democracies value more norms towards peaceful resolution and average citizens have a more direct role in politics and will bear the costs of a war so they are more likely to oppose war. With less democracy, the more conflict we will see. Citizens will bear the cost of war through taxation or conscription: death rates exceed birth rates.
