Psych 101 childhood development february 27th. Introduction to development: development: age related changes that occur as individual progresses from conception to death. Attachment: development continues through adolescence and adulthood. All psychologists are interested in childhood development. Through infancy and childhood we invest in semantic growth, then as we grow, reproductive effort. The timing that the species are not the same, some invest more into certain stages than others. Humans are unique to invest much more in parenting. There is a small difference only between where mating and parenting effort for humans. Divides into somatic effort and reproductive effort which divides into mating effort (more male investment) and parenting effort (more female investment) Typical pattern of decisions made by members of a species; each species has a different pattern. Prenatal development: prenatal period: conception to birth, germinal stage (first 2 weeks): Migration along fallopian tube; implantation in uterine wall. Risk of miscarriage and birth defects is high.
