Since the base system of film was already established it made the transition to sound much easier, especially through the great depression. Sound was one of the key points to get around/weather the great depression. Before gd - 50 million people/week went to films then jumped to 90 million people a week during. Studios did things to get people to come to movies like by giving out free home items that would related to films. By the 30s we have a very regiment studio cinema. 1930s-1940s doesn"t really change much for the system. The whole cinema system run by 8 studios in the us. After the first world war, american films began to dominate international/foreign markets. Silent films were easy to distribute as they did not have to work with different spoken language much. Majors own their own theaters, giving them power over minors.
