United artists studios and director auto priminger (sp?) put out films that broke the code. 1966 motion picture association of america (mpaa) still do it now. 1930s justice department felt 5 major studios were too powerful, together they served as a monopoly. You could make a film, you could distribute a film, but studios also own theatres, so they could keep out anyone they wanted from showing their films. Studios own more than 75% of all films.
