Document Summary

Probably not, more like environmental influences and a temporary crisis, it wasn"t enduring. Situationists argued that behavior varies across situations and situational differences determine behavior. Behavior is a function of personality traits. Behavior is a function of the situation. Behavior is a function of both of these things. Personality & situation interact to produce behavior. Situational specificity: certain situation can provoke behavior that is out of character for an individual. Strong situation: situation in which most people react in a similar way. Weak situation: when situations are weak or ambiguous, personality has its strongest influence. E. g. when a person smiles at you. Tendency to choose or select situations in which one finds oneself, as a function of personality. E. g. people high in extraversion usually choose high sociable activities. Tend to evoke a response from the environment. E. g. people high in neuroticism will be more hostile or angry, and will evoke a response from another person, maybe a negative response.
